Among the many awards for Endal, pictured here with his partner Allen, was the unique one-off "Canine Lifetime Achievement Award" presented at the National Golden Bone Awards 2001 held at Manchester Airport's Radisson Hotel on Saturday 9th February 2002. It was presented by TV presenter Shauna Lowrie and was a complete and wonderful surprise to his partner Allen.
Endal has also been voted "Dog of the Millennium" by Dogs Today readers, Beta Pet Foods and "Dog of the Year" by Pro-Pat Dogs. He has even won the first ever prestigious "Golden Bonio Award" and the "Year of Promise Life Saver Award 2000". Endal is able to help his owner, Gulf War veteran Allen Parton in so many ways. His ability to use the cash dispenser, and also in the event of a blackout, being able to put Allen into the recovery position, cover him with a blanket and activate the emergency phone, has captured the whole nation's imagination.
The ability to deal with in this case an accident, where Allen was knocked out of his wheelchair in a hotel car park and left unconscious on the ground has earned Endal yet another award. This is the PDSA Gold Medal for Animal Gallantry and Devotion to Duty. This is hailed as "the animals' equivalent of the George Cross".
He managed to manoeuvre Allen into the recovery position, cover him with the blanket from his wheelchair and push his mobile phone to his face. Only when Allen regained consciousness did Endal leave his side to alert the hotel staff and summon help. How many of us humans would have had the sense to do all these things!
On the left is the link to his very own Web Site where you will see for yourself his remarkable story. Definately not to be missed! You will find more pictures and news about him by going to the "Digger and Friends" page and clicking on his picture.
